How to: feathered Dutch braids with a Dutch braid

Helpful tutorials:

You'll need:
Three or four small elastics
A bow or flower, if you like

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Part het hair down the middle. Now take a small section of hair on each side of the part, about in the middle of the forehead. Put a small elastic around this hair - you won't need it until later.
  2. To make it easier, you can put an elastic around 1 half of the hair - you're only working with 1 half at a time.
  3. Choose 1 of the two halfs to start with. Take a small section of hair and start a Dutch braid with this. But there's a difference: before you're adding hair to the strand that's closest to the middle, you need to divide this strand into two. Bring half of it to the side, add hair to the other half and continue braiding with this. An example of this technique, called 'feathering', can be seen in my tutorial Ladder headband braid. The only difference here is that you're adding hair to the other half.
  4. Continue Dutch braiding and feathering until you've added in all of the hair. Then continue braiding until the end of the hair and finish off with a small elastic.
  5. Now repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other half of the hair.
  6. Now remove the elastic from the hair you've seperated off in the beginning, the strand in the front. Divide this strand into three.
  7. Now use this hair to start your third Dutch braid. The hair you're adding is, is the loose strands from your previous braids.
  8. When you've added in all of the hair, continue braiding until the end of the hair. You could put a small elastic around this braid first, but you can also put 1 last elastic around all three braids together.
  9. If you like, finish off the hairstyle with a bow or a flower.
Good luck!
