Lace braids

French braiding and Dutch braiding are, after the regular braid, the most known braiding techniques. For those who would like a little more variation, there's the lace braid: a French or Dutch braid where you only add in hair on one side.

The great thing about a lace braid is that you can do all kinds of things with it. You could do a French or a Dutch version and you can choose to only add in hair on the left side or only on the right side, depending on the hairstyle you want to do.

Lace braids are also a fun base for a beautiful updo. Start by making a ponytail and then divide the hair into two, three or more strands. Then do a lace braid in each of the strands. When you secure the braids with bobby pins, the strands you've added in will open up, leaving you with a completely different updo than a regular knotted bun.

The bun in the photo is an example of lace braids. For this bun I've done three lace braids and pinned these into place.
